From 1880 - 1888 Henry Warren used this book to account for his and his father's business accounts. In the back of this book there are a variety of notes that he made throughout these years.
This section is one in which Henry coped down the lyrics to a song.
The little old log cabin by the steam
Way down in old Kentucky not many years ago.
Where we used to hunt de possum and de coon
And de darkies used to have a little dance
While de banjo an de fiddle was in tune
No more we hear those merry sounds or see those days of yore ,
Nor the little darkies playing on the green,
Nor the merry smile of Rose Lee the only flower
That bloomed in that old log cabin by the stream,

Chorus
Then hang up the banjo and the fiddle on the wall,
Lay away the bones and the tambourine,
Since death has taken of my Rose the only
Flower that bloomed,
In that little old log cabin by the stream.

I never never can forget those happy hours we spent
As we wandered together over the hill
Or sat beneath willow and watched the rolling stream
Or listened to the clatter of the mill

And when the night was coming on,
And the darkies work was done,
How day used to gather on the green,
With the fiddle and the banjo
Day would make the forest ring
In the little old log cabin by the stream

One night ashore in Toledo
We had a jolly time
While floating down the Shawnee?
The moon did brightly shine
Captain Cramer two of the Boodys crew
Wright merrily did sing
And we made the air resound in the ?
Of the barque of the Jennie P King
We went on board the Boody
And Cramer did pass
The Bottle from man to man
Till each one had his glass
The Asswega? Dispatch we boarded next
And the the Captian he did turned in
And we wome him up to make him sing
The song of the Jennie P King
Then back on board the Boody
All hands did go once more
One of the boys lay on the sail
And soon began to snore
He nodded twice then gave a lurch
And backward he fell in
And was brough on deck like a drowned rat
By the mate of the Jennie P King
Next morning we got under way
And homeward we did stur
Our bow  strait point for Buffalo
Toledo in our rear
Down on Niagara River
Tonawanda we’ll make sing
Heres three shouts for Captian Cramer
And the Crew of the Jennie P King

The Jennie P King
Come all ye jollie sailors
That love to hear a song
Attention pay to what  I say
I wont detain you long
We shipped in Tonawanda
Some time for to bring
From Toledo for a dollar a day
In the barque of the Jennie P King

Chorus

Harrah my boys Hurrah
Now let us join and sing
Heres the heath to Captian Erwin
And the crew of the Jennie P Kin
Twas on the sickward day of June
We hauled her out of dock
With the steamboat Jennie Bell
We towed her to Black Rock
But when we left her on the lake
Twas then we did begin
TO see which would make sail the first
Dispatch the Jennie P King
Chorus
Our boys jumped in the rigging
And up aloft did run
To ride the Halyards down on deck
To see if it was fun
And every man worked with a will
And soon we spread her wings
And we beat to smach? the schooner dispatch
With the barque of the Jennie P King

Once more upon Lake Erie
Our sails? they no? the wing
Our bowsprit point for Toledo
Tonawanda we leave behind
Only the foaming? bursting? bilaius?
From the bows? they must take wing
Dispatch in her wake can never? Overtake
The barque of the Jennie P King
From on this timber dragger?
We have a worthy crew
We have Uncle Sam’s sea fighters
And garibaldis too
We’ve one from New York City
The draft it him did sting?
And he came to Tonawanda
To ship? In the Jennie P King
There are men from Jefferson County
Canadians to I think
There’s the dutch from Tonawanda
That like good lager beer drink
There’s Betty the cook comes next in turn
I think she’s just the thing
To suit Captain and   crew and officers
On the barque of the Jennie P King
There’s one who minds the horses
He is a few? feet sure?
Whether man or monkey
I cannot tell  I’m sure?
The Captain feeds him of apple sauce?
And calls him devil skin
For he chatters and  gabbles both night and day
On the barque of the Jennie P King
