The Forsyth-Warren Tavern is a Western New York Landmark operated by the 501(c)(3) non-profit Forsyth-Warren Tavern Living History Farm and Museum. The Museum's mission is to preserve the property and grow it into a thriving community center.
Our annual Beltane Festival is a celebration of our agricultural heritage. Forsyth's is one of, if not the, oldest sheep farm in Western New York and each year during the Beltane Festival we shear our flock of sheep and begin the arduous process of refining their wool. The public is invited to join us for these demonstrations beginning Saturday morning. The historic Tavern will also be open throughout the day serving up food, drink, and some of our landmark's incredible history.
This year's educational focus will be on our two bicentennials; the first being the Tavern's day if infamy where the Sgt. Ezra Warren. after a supernatural encounter, closed Forsyth's Tavern for good and founded the Church which remains beside it. With this, we also commemorate Mobocracy in Warren's Corners as May 10th is the day when celebrated abolitionist William Goodell "tested the spirit of liberty in this northwest corner of the State" and was met with some surprising reactions.
We also will be celebrating the bicentennial of the Erie Canal this year and invite the public to learn about DeWitt Clinton's stay at the Tavern during his planning exploration for that canal in 1810.
